High School Helps

Youth Apprenticeship Program

This program is sponsored by the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.  Youth Apprenticeship is a two-year commitment – students become a part of it during their junior and senior year. During those two years, students will work (and get paid for!) a minimum of 900 hours at a local business/industry, and take classes at NWTC – which will count toward their college degree.  Home school students are eligible.  Students apply in their sophomore year usually in early February.  See this link for more information and to download an application:  http://www.titletown.org/programs/workforce-development/youth-apprenticeship-program

Safety education Courses

Badger Boys/Girls State

These are programs sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxilliary, respectively.  Each program takes place for one week in June every year.  Students attending have completed their junior year of high school. The selection process is very competitive and students come from all over the state. The boys go to Ripon College and the girls to the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. They spend a week learning about the workings of government by doing, with the students making up a 51st state, becoming part of a fictional political party, electing officers, deciding policy, etc.  The week concludes with an assembly to swear in the newly elected state officers and regularly includes visits from the  Wisconsin governor and members of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  There is no cost to attend as all students must be sponsored.  Homeschool students are eligible; see below for specifics.

Badger Boys State:   www.badgerboysstate.com  Home-schooled students are eligible but must be considered among the pool of students in what would be their school district had they attended their local school.

Badger Girls State: http://www.badgergirlsstate.org/  Girls must be enrolled in their junior year of a Wisconsin public, parochial or private high school or home school to attend.
